The concept of analogy between such branches of physics as mechanical and electrical physics, kinetics, thermodynamics and scientometric field was assumed, and it seems to be an incredibly interesting consilience. Perceiving standard bibliometric measures as an energy which each paper carries, allow us to operate with these numbers in a new way. P index, which is calculated as p=X1/3 =(iC)1/3=(c/pC)1/3=(c2/p)1/3, where C is the total number of citations received and P is the total number of publications, were computed for 499 top productive authors affiliated with Malaysian institutuions, who were retrieved from Web of Science Database...Item Open Access User-centered design and reference services in international librarianship: a case study of Nazarbayev University Library(Taylor & Francis. Emerald Group Publishing Limited, 2014) Dowding, HeidiPurpose – The purpose of this paper is to explore the role of the national university in developing sustainable cultural heritage digital preservation practices. Design/methodology/approach – Using Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan as an example, this paper discusses current development of cultural heritage digital collections, and looks to the university library’s impact on nationwide digital practices development. Findings – While the university and its digital collections are still nascent, NU will likely have a large impact on the creation of sustainable digital cultural heritage preservation practices due to its international visibility and direct connection to stakeholders. Core thoughts of the group discussion was manifested by seven leading speakers. The students are assigned to work on several projects on various applications of mathematical topics in daily life and submit written reports. An embedded librarian collaborates together with the instructor and the students to improve the students' information literacy. Initial reaction and anecdotal evidence show that the students' information literacy and academic performance have improved throughout the semesters. With the help of the DLP system and encryption we are able to protect and control the confidential data about our clients, HR data, intellectual ownership data, legal and financial documentation, official letter exchanges with partners and clients, academic and research data, etc...Item Open Access The Impact of Library Resource Utilization on Undergraduate Students’ Academic Performance: A Propensity Score Matching Design(College and Research Libraries, 2015-07) Chiteng Kot, Felly; Jones, Jennifer L.This study uses three cohorts of first-time, full-time undergraduate students (N=8,652) at a large, metropolitan, public research university to examine the impact of student use of three library resources (workstations, study rooms, and research clinics) on academic performance. To deal with self-selection bias and estimate this impact more accurately, we used propensity score matching. Using this unique approach allowed us to construct treatment and control groups with similar background characteristics.
