Among over 200 polytypes of SiC, only cubic silicon carbide (3C-SiC) can be heteroepitaxially grown on Si. However, there are still no commercial 3C-SiC devices available due to its cost and issues with growth and leakage currents [2]. While leakage into the underlying Si can be managed by transferring the 3C-SiC layer to an insulating substrate, this process is difficult to scale and integrate into current technologies [3].Item Open Access Experimental study of energy distribution in ion-beam lithography(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems. R.; Tolkynbayeva, T.; Shabelnikova, Ya. L.; Zaitsev, S. I.The paper reports two important results. Conducted a rigorous comparison of the sensitivity of the resist is polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) to the irradiation of electron and ion beams. It is shown that, as in the case of electron irradiation, the resist shows both positive (at low doses) and negative (at higher doses) behavior of sensitivity. But compared with the electronic exposure, sensitivity of the resist is approximately a thousand times higher to the ion exposure, both the positive and negative areas.....Item Open Access Uniform and thin gel-like polymer separator for three-dimensional (3D) lithium-ion batteries(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems. One of such systems was published in 2015 [1], where zinc (Zn) foil had been chosen as a negative electrode due to its abundance in the Earth's crust and high theoretical capacity. However, Zn-based battery systems have a common serious issue arising from the Zn dendritic growth on the surface of the electrode after several cycles leading to shortened cycle life...Item Open Access Na3V(PO3)3N: New zero-strain and 4V cathode material for Na-ion batteries(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems. Institute of Batteries LLP, Nazarbayev University, and PI “National Laboratory Astana”., 2018-08-08) Ablayeva, K.; Abduakhytova, D; Lepikhin, MRecently, considerable efforts of specialists in the field of power sources are aimed at research on fully 3D microbatteries. The key advantage of a 3D microbattery is the higher surface area as compared to a planar film that allows for increased contact area with the electrolyte and more surface sites available for reversible reactions with lithium ions. This in turn leads to improved battery kinetics and increased power density while maintaining a small areal footprint. This peculiarity of the battery design can be provided by the use of 3D structured cathode/anode materials, the most attractive of which are highly ordered nanotubes (NTs) made of titanium dioxide with high capacity at fast charge and discharge rates and excellent long-term cycling characteristics. Apart from this crucial result, key to the successful fabrication of a full solid state microbattery is the conformal deposition of electrolyte on the self-supported electrode material to preserve the 3D architecture.Item Open Access Preparation of high performance micro- and mesoporous carbon-based sorbents from rice husk and walnut shell(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems. Institute of Batteries LLP, Nazarbayev University, and PI “National Laboratory Astana”., 2018-08-08) Baptayev, Bakhytzhan; Aukenova, Ainura; Balanay, MannixCounter electrode is an important component of dye sensitized solar cells. Its function is to regenerate the redox electrolyte and thus complete the circuit. Traditional counter electrodes are made of platinum – a rare and very expensive metal. The use of platinum may affect the cost of the solar cell. Therefore, it is vital to search for cost-effective alternatives to platinum. Hereby we present the application of transition metal doped carbon as platinum free counter electrode in dye sensitized solar cells. Proposed material is prepared from natural organic sources following hydrothermal synthetic methods. The counter electrode is made by doctor blading the paste of doped carbon material on FTO glass. The photovoltaic performance of presented material is compared with that of reference cell made of platinum.Item Open Access Seasonal and Regional Clean Drinking Water Map for Kazakhstan(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems. Institute of Batteries LLP, Nazarbayev University, and PI “National Laboratory Astana”., 2018-08-08) Srymbetov, Tamerlan; Rojas-Solórzano, Luis R.; Jetybayeva, AlbinaThe scarcity of drinking water is becoming a more urgent problem in the world each day. This problem is even more crucial for Kazakhstan due to its geographic location since the major sources of drinking water today are underground water and lakes, which will be close to their limits in the future, if they remain to be the primary origins of fresh water [1]. However, the progress in technologies of water harvesting enables us today to harvest drinking water from the use of renewable and unintegrated sources of water. The main aim of this work is to determine the most economically viable technologies for obtaining drinking water in Kazakhstan, on a regional and seasonal basis and with minimal environmental impact.Item Open Access Inverted hybrid solar cell based on PbS nanocrystals embedded in P3HT: C60 system(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems. Institute of Batteries LLP, Nazarbayev University, and PI “National Laboratory Astana”., 2018-08-08) Mahmoud, Fawzy Abdel HamidTernary system hybrid solar cells, with an inverted structure, that are composed of P3HT, PbS nanocrystals (PbS NCs) and C60; with weight ratio (1:0.6:0.3) were investigated and compared with our control cell without PbS nanocrystals. The incorporation of PbS nanocrystals showed increased power conversion efficiency (PCE) compared with that of a binary system with P3HT and C60. The effect of active layer thickness was also studied. Through thickness, structural, optical, electrical measurements and SEM micrographs, it is evident that low-cost PbS NCs in such devices can efficiently improve charge carrier transport and exciton dissociation. This simple approach for increasing the photocurrent by NCs will be useful for the development of the organic solar cells.Item Open Access Methodology of Corrosion Testing of Nuclear and Fusion Reactors’ Materals Using TGA/DSC and MS Complex Techniques(The 6th International Conference on Nanomaterials and Advanced Energy Storage Systems.
